Check your fluids first. Also check the condition of the Belt(s), Pulleys, Belt tensioner's & Idlers.

What year is your's? On some models we have a Steering Tension adjustment, with a slide switch on the dash near the headlamp switch. The three settings cause noticeable change in the feel of the steering.

You need to bleed the the system. Jack the front wheels up and turn the wheel lock to lock 15-20 times with the engine running and the cap off.

also, does it make a reoooooor sound when steering? The sound is an indication that there is air in the lines and alittle air can cause havoc.

I had this problem too,the PS pump seemed like it was dead{very stiff steering}but when I give it some gas and turn it would get alittle easier.oh and it made a horrible sound.come to find out that my fluid was low and their was air in the lines. doing the bleed and adding fluid was like a miracle {DO THIS}.

Hey BigRandy

There's tons of folks dumping huge amounts of $$ to diagnose and fix these kind of problems....

You should open up a shop, 'Big Randy's Power Steering Repair'
As a side line, you can sell rear tires

I think Aaron (and you) may be onto something with stressing the system, could be some foreign matter clogging something in the fluid path.

Hope you've fixed it for keeps

Well my problem happend when my pulley tensioner seized up and put stress on the pullys and somehow made the power steering leak about a half pint{and let air in the lines} and then sealed its self back up{has not leaked ever since}. Oh and my dad got so mad when I used to turn the wheel lock to lock so I subconcously never do.
