3.4 issues!

Hey all... Haven't been here in a LONG time. Anyways, I've got a 94 3.4 camaro that has just under 84k miles on it. I've got a few issues with it. The first has gone on since I bought it, and still can't figure it out.

#1: Whenever I turn left, there is a high pitched squeeling inside the car as long as the wheel is being turned. When I let off and let the car naturally straighten, the noise stops. Basically, it just squeels as long as the steering pump is working. Turning right is normal... no squeel. There isn't any struggle or anything... it always turns fine, just has the obnxious high pitch squeel. Tune up recently done about 5k miles ago (plugs, wires, belt, etc). I have had my dad look at it (long time mechanic), but he can't hear it since its out of his hearing range. Most people can, but all of the mechanics around here can't.

Ideas?

#2. This is a very recent problem. Since I bought the car, every once in a while it will start up and give some blue smoke. I know the problem is a valve spring problem, it just burns a little oil every so often. Recently, when I start cold, the car idles and runs pretty rough. There is no smoke, but it smells like its running rich. The idle gets pretty low, but it never stalls or comes close. When you put it in gear, it runs rough. Underpowered and runs like its chugging. This only happens for AT MOST 2 minutes. I dont even get to the end of my street when it stops. I can either let off the gas, or continue driving and it will within 2-3 seconds time be absolutely normal.

I checked both O2 sensors and they were both pretty black, so I changed them. I also changed the fuel filter as it was the original one as well as the PCV valve. The problem stopped for about a week or so. Then, it SLOWLY started coming back. Now, about 1-2 months later, its as bad as it was before. Could it be an EGR problem? No SES light of any kind. Again, it only happens on a COLD start... never when its hot. As I said before, it has had a tune up recently, regular oil changes, fuel filter, PCV valve, belts, wires, plugs, and O2 sensors. Anything else I should check?

Only mods are cold air intake, magnaflow cat and flowmaster cat-back.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I also put some fuel injector cleaner in. Improved performance, but problem still persists.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: 3.4 issues!

Glad to see your still alive and kicken! Those are some tough problems you got there.

Issue 1:
Does it only happen at cruising speeds, taking a turn slowly, or does it just always do it when you turn the steering wheel left, no matter what speed? I'd recommend having the power steering pump fluid changed. It's just like brake fluid, and eventually goes bad and gets worn down and contaminated after so much time. If that doesn't do it, and you still get the problem, then the only other thing I can think of is either a wheel bearing (though that would be more persistent, not just when you turn left) or a worn out bushing possibly.

Issue 2:
Only thing I can think of is your fuel pump. Though with that low miles on it, I really can't imagine it going bad already. But who knows.

I really wish I could help you out more, but most of this is over my head. Hopefully someone else pops in and sheds some light on this.

I know what the problem is; you're missing two cylinders.

Really? I wouldn't think so since it primes fine, and the car runs perfectly fine after the 2-3 minutes. Like I said, it seems to be running rich when it does that, so would the fuel pump be causing that?

Re: 3.4 issues!

i got a 3.4 94 as well, and well i got the same problem (the 2nd), but my car is at 160,000...mine made it this far and so far its fine. My pump was replaced at about 100,000 but problem still continued. I finaly said screw it, it just sounds bad for a minute oh well. Maybe just a flaw from the factory

Re: 3.4 issues!

I'm a little more caring about what drives my butt around everyday. If i'm gonna own something, I'm gonna take good care of it. If it aint broke, dont fix it, but if its broke, you better fix it or you got whats comin to you.

An even better idea would be to come up with a new joke that doesn't offend others.

Re: 3.4 issues!

the best idea yet..

uh. idk

but anyways, seriously.. everyone need not get offended in these forums cuz we banter too much.

check the banter thread

oh

my 2 cents on your squeal.. could it be your brake pad rattling against your rotor? ive noticed that my car used to do that as the brakes wore down... i got ceramics now so its not that screechy.

its weird since its only one way turning. try check the brakes, and put anti-squeal gel or glue or lube or whatever you call it behind the pads.
