1968 T-bird

I'm trying to get my 68 t-bird running,the engine will start but sometimes when I turn it off,the car sputters for a while and then turns off,if any of you guys have any input it will be greatly apreciated.

Hot carbon in the cylinder will make it "diesel" when shutting it off. Put some gas additive in the fuel tank. If you shut it off while in Drive, the engine won't run on.

Be sure the timing is set correctly also.

Thanks guys I'll take a llok at the spark plugs and add an additive,i should also mention that when I rev it up vapor come out from the carb,this is a car that i bougth like this and have never run it before.

Brief update,installed new plugs,adjusted choke,and engine seems to be running better,quick question do you know whats the correct gap for the spak plugs?

0.034 for all engines. points and (dwell): 0.021 (24-29)for 302, 390-428 std trans 0.017 (26-31)for 390-428 auto trans. Timing 6 deg BTDC all engines Comp. Press. Lbs. + or - 20lbs. 302 150lbs 390-428 180lbs

Thanks for the info it will be very useful,i have them at.040 wich means im going to have to take them out again,well the good thing about old car is that have a lot of space,thanks again.
