Question 94 Mustang windows wont roll down

My neice has a 1994 Mustang and her power windows will not roll down. I can hear the power window motor working but the window won't move. It used to be only the driver's side but now the passenger side is doing it as well. Since this is her car, I can't take it apart and tinker with it for a few days until I get it fixed. I need to take it apart prepared to get the job done so I need to be prepared for what I might find. What is the most common reason for this failure? Can you recommend a place to purchase parts needed to complete repair? If the problem is in the power window motor/gearbox, is it cheaper to repair them or replace them? The benefit of your experience is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve Brooks

Never opened one of those.

OPen it up, I am sure its going to be a cable, or track issue.

Re: 94 Mustang windows wont roll down

once my motors failed so i pulled them and tested them on a 12volt battery. they worked just fine off the battery so i thought maybe i'd hook them up again with out a load to ensure that they were getting the right voltage. long story short the motors were dirty and not getting 100% of the necessary volts from the old wires. once they were "broken free" by the battery they ran fine and continue to do so.

pull a motor (use a chilton's) and wire it to a battery. it does not matter if you go red to negetive or yellow to positive or any combination because the difference in polarization (is that the right concept here) forces the motor clockwise or counterclockwise depending. either way is fine.

Re: 94 Mustang windows wont roll down

With Fords windows motor's pretty much on any vehicle are the same, unless they are cable driven from the motor by a pully system.

Most common problem ive found is, Hearing the motor no motion in window, not a track problem but a Roller Bearing inside the window motors. the gear and the bearings are made from a plastic constant use of holding the button down or up after fully extended will cause them to smear the bearings instead of Shorting out the motors. They have the replacement bearings at almost all auto stores bout 3 dollars also put some White lithium grease on them to help motion from sticking.

Hope this helps others i know old thread.

The gear box for the windows is part of the motor. Yes, they can be replaced. You will probably have to drill an access hole to the motor mounts in the door frame. If you have the money it would be best to replace the whole assembly--motor and gears.
