Re: 2000 e38 engine fault code

Not too sure where that code came from. Was that pulled using a Peake scan tool? You'll find the definition in the back of the manual, I believe it has a chart i there. Usually BMW diag codes start with a 'P' followed by four numbers.

I've tried to look online for a list of Peake codes, there used to be one, but couldn't find it.

Also, it would help us help you if you posted what engine you have...

Re: 2000 e38 engine fault code

Sorry about the engine...It is the v8 .I was told this fault from the dealer..They dont like to give much info out. They read the fault and said it was fault 26.Must be from their master code reader? They wouldnt give me anything else about fault.AKA i am a cheap assss.Didnt want to pay the HIGH price for check out ..so they wrote that on the repair order.{Fault code 26 stored in dme cleared fault.Customer declined repair}.They didnt give me a repair option ..said they needed more time to check it out?

Re: 2000 e38 engine fault code

Haha yeah, that sounds about right...no need for the dealer.

the V8 model, I'm guessing 740i?

Anyways, I've been doing some looking up. The only thing I could find as far as Code 26 had to do with the 'precat O2 sensor heater control, cyl 4-6'...however, that code is from a Peake diag scan tool and doesn't make sence as the cylinder grouping 4-6 is consistant with an inline 6...it might also be a V12 model but code 26 on the peake code chart doesn't indicate which bank.

The only suggestion at this point is to describe the problem or the symptoms and we can help you out on here, or to invest in a Peake Scan Tool and pull the code up on there and look in the Peake book for the descriptions, and post back here if you're still a little foggy. If you decide to get the scan tool, do make sure that you have the one that is compatible with your car.

It comes with a manual for you to follow, so you won't get mixed up. Or, just thought of this, if you wanted to, register over at the E38 roadfly forums, and post it up on there...there's plently of guys who know their way around an E38 who might be able to help you out...
