Thinking of an Intake system
I was hoping to get a K&N FIPK intake system, but didn't see one for my Elantra. What do you guys think about the steel systems? heres what I have in mind:

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
As far as kit's go this seems like a much better deal that the K&N kit. My son bought the K&N kit for his 92 Dodge Stealth and the cost was $165. All it was was the air filter and a little hunk of plastic with a couple of small brackets. My opinion was it was a waste of money. And the Stealth kit was one of the cheaper kits! After he bought his I did a little looking around and found other kit's that used the same kind of filter and there prices were 1/3 the cost of the K&N kit. K&N makes good stuff but there kits are wat too pricey for me. I think E-Bay is a great place to find stuff like what you looking for.

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
I tried posting yesterday, but it never showed up..
How will the stock exhaust do with the CAI. With as restrictive as it is, will I need to go get a more "free flowing" system? Is there anything that doesn't sound like a street racer. Any recommendations?

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
That one says it's for an engine without a MAF though. Doesn't your Elantra have a MAF? I know my '99 does but I'm not sure if things have changed on the 3rd gen.

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
do the system if you can afford the gas, i put a cone on my 04 Elantra and it sounded just perfect it didn't sound anywhere close to a Honda, it sounded meaner. The best part is if you keep the throttle under 2k it sounds stock until you really open her up the only thing that i didn't like was i burnt a tank of gas in less than 330km.

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
That system won't work on your car. Your car, being a 2005, is a CVVT motor, which has a mass air flow sensor. They went to CVVT on 2003s, and all had a MAF after that year. That only year Elantras that that system will work on is 2001 and 2002, which is before they went to the CVVT.

Re: Thinking of an Intake system
sorry to disagree but the kit in the link WILL work, I have a MAF and that setup on my car ... you just throw the elbow out and put the filter in place of the OEM air box.
No problems with the stock exhaust, the bigger air flow won't be enough to change anything else. |
