97 Battery light flashing

Hi my battery light started flashing and gradually I lost dash lights and then regular lights and eventually it just quit, but being it was dark I just left it and got a ride home and will deal with it in the morning. I was thinking maybe the belt but that is still on and has good tension so can I assume it is just the alternator?

The alternator is a pretty safe bet. Check that all the wires are still connected though... maybe something just worked its way loose?

Yeah. It's the alternator. The brushes get so worn that the springs won't hold them against the armature. The light will flicker for a while and then go on for good.

Re: 97 Battery light flashing

Thanks guys, you were correct, I replaced the alternator this morning and all is good again, now if only fixing the a/c was as easy but after reading the forums here it sounds like the place to start is the CCRM when the compressor doesn't kick on.

Thanks!
