Ecm Help!

Hey guys, aparently I fried an ECM and need to replace mine. I found an ebay ECM that programs it to my VIN thats a salvage vehicle unit. My question is, how hard is it to change out ECM's. they quoted me 600 and I definately would rather do it myself and save a lot of money.

Re: Ecm Help!

You can get a salvage PCM for about $50. Just get the right year model. Changing one takes about 10 minutes. I am assuming you are talking about a 99 or newer, right?

Re: Ecm Help!

An Ac Delco program is involved with this and a PC computer with a Pentium 4 has to be used.Only scan tool that can be used is GM's factory scan tool,Tech 2.

I'm not looking for a programmer, I fried the on board computer and need to replace it. How hard is it to do that?

That's what I'm saying. Get a tune for $200 and be done with it; they send you a new PCM. Screw that $600

Re: Ecm Help!

They can probably send you an pcm with a stock tune if you don't want a performance tune.

Re: Ecm Help!

Nay, spend the extra $50 or $100 and get a tune. You'll enjoy driving it more, and your MPG will be better

They don't tune your computer; they tune one, send it to you, and you send them a core in return.

Re: Ecm Help!

What are these guys gonna say when you send back a fried PCM??? You might have to pay a core charge too, but it's worth it. Or you could get on out of a junk truck (same year/model) and send it to them I guess.

Just google wait4me, pcm4less, nelson tune, etc. You'll find them, though I don't know which is best
