Auto Trans Shift Issue

In the past few weeks I have had an intermitant problem with the Automatic box on my 97 454 4x4 Suburban. Occassionally when the vehicle has been run for about 10 miles and then stopped for an hour or so, when I restart the vehicle and drive a further mile or so when it shifts up from first to second it doesn't do it very smoothly, infact it does it with some force and makes the whole car shift, then the same happens from second to third and third to fouth is not so violent but still not that smooth. If I start from cold and continue to drive for some distance it appears to shift fine.
I noticed that when it does have issues the engine temperature is just under 200 degrees, it's normal running temp. is 210 degrees
I have checked the fluid and the level is fine, the colour a nice red and doesn't smell burnt in anyway. oh and it's done 95000 miles in all and I have just realised that I haven't tried it in 4x4 mode to check if it does the same thing but will do over the next few days just to see but any ideas now would be much appreciated.

Re: Auto Trans Shift Issue

This should be scanned with a trans function scanner to look at the pressure control solenoid function, this was the most common cause of this problem.

Re: Auto Trans Shift Issue

Thanks for the info, I will now have to try to find someone over here that knows what one is and where to plug it in. If I manage that then I should imagine that they will know what the codes mean.
As an added note it is now happening more often and not only after stopping and restarting but now happens when the engine gets to normal temperature, so I need to sort it sooner rather than later as it can't be doing the transmission any good.
