98 EXPLORER questions

I have a 98 Explorer.
A few issues I would appreciate feedback on.

1. Poor idle or dies at a stand still at high temperatures or after driving awhile. I've replaced the fuel filter and still have the same issue though not as bad.

2. Sometimes when I start the car I can't shift it into gear. (5 spd Manual)
I hear a clicking sound in the dash. If I turn off the car and restart it then often times I can get it into gear if I don't hear the clicking. Bad transfer case motor? or a short?

3. My obd II computer always seems to be resetting. So when an engine light comes on periodically ( I think in relation to the poor idle) when I go to check for codes after turning the car off their is nothing

Any and all comments appreicated

Re: 98 EXPLORER questions

Welcome to the forum!

Seems like you may want to have the battery and charging system checked out. First start by verifying your battery clables are clean and tight. Check the battery for voltage before and after a load test. See what the current drain is on the battery. Make sure the connection for the ground cable is also clean and tight.
