Re: PLEASE HELP!!!! factory sub (how to install)

If you're not sure that what you see is an amplifier, don't hook to it. I don't have much familiarity with the '93 Explorer to know if a factory subwoofer was available or not. On my 2000 Mountaineer, the factory subwoofer assembly has the amplifier mounted right on it. There are numerous other modules behind the panels for different things such as remote keyless entry, security, and maybe even airbag controllers. Even if it is an amplifier for the door speakers, it isn't designed to handle the current draw that a subwoofer will need, plus the audio will not be lowpass frequencies only which would be hard on the subwoofer.

You may want to check out what QLogic has for pre-formed subwoofer boxes for your Explorer. Crutchfield sells these assemblies online, and many of the better automotive electronic shops will be able to get them for you. They will require an auxilliary amplifier though.
