Mess of Sensors
Trying to figure out what all the sensors on my quad 4 SOHC are but I can't figure which one is which and I can't account for all of them. Mainly on the back of the engine (exhaust side) there is a sensor bolted into the cam housing (oil pressure?), one bolted in the cylinder head (water temp?), and one bolted into the block (knock sensor?), and one bolted in the thermostat housing (water temp?). As you see I've listed what I think they are but that would leave me having two water temp sensors which I'm not sure my 93 grand am has. Also the cylinder head sensor is only one wire so I thought it may be the knock sensor but it sticks in the water jacket so I figure it must be water temp. I'm at a lost, anyone here know their sensors on the quad 4?
Also am I correct to say the crank sensor is in the block by the oil filter. |

Re: Mess of Sensors
You can go to the autozone site, register your vehicle, click on repair guides. In the left column, there should be a link that says, "component locations", you can try that.
On the wiring diagrams, you can look at the color of the wires going to the sensor, the sensors are labeled on the wiring diagram, match the color to the wires going to whatever sensor, under your hood. |

Re: Mess of Sensors
Autosones repair guides are being redone and Grand ams are not listed at all through any year right now.
You should have maked them all before you took the engines apart to do the swap! Without picture identification your dead in the water. Usually only one thing will plug into a sensor, meaning no two plug are alike. Good Hunting

Re: Mess of Sensors
I'm doing this from memory, but here goes. The knock sensor on the quads is on the back of the block. Oil sensor is on the head, by the cam(s). Temp sensor is on the back of the head, and the one by the t-stat housing goes to the ecm. T-stat sensor is a 2 wire, oil pressure switch or sensor is a 3 wire, temp sensor and knock sensor are both 1 wire I believe. I'd go look at mine but I sold it last week, plus I had the dohc motor.

I just now went to the AZ site, found the component location link, again, on the vehicle in question. I tried that an hour ago, and the grand am wasn't listed, they are working on the site. |
