99 GMC Sierra starting problem

I have a 99 GMC Sierra 4x4 4.8L. First thing in the morning I crank it and it starts and runs fine. After I drive somewhere, then turn it off and let it set for 15-20 minutes or more, then try to start it, it just cranks for a while then starts rough for a second then runs fine. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump $$$$$, and still no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Where did you get the fuel pump at?The aftermarket fuel pumps are junk,Carter and Airtex will deny any warranty claim and call it improper installation.Go with one from the dealer which will last longer.

Re: 99 GMC Sierra starting problem

I'd check the FP pressure when its acting up. I had an intermitant starting problem like your describing. It turned out to be a bad check valve in the pump. The FP pressure test showed (with key on-not running) the pump built 60lbs then dropped to zero.If yours is bad, there will be little or no fuel in the rail when the problem occures,so you wont even need a guage.
