Anti lock light anomoly

When I start my 2000 regal, if I step on the brake pedal while starting the engine, the anti-lock light, service engine light and one other come on and stay on. But, if I do not step on the brake pedal, the lights do not come on.

Any guesses?

Re: Anti lock light anomoly

You have a problem with the ABS braking system and it is probably failing the first part of self-test and/or initialization. Probably best to get it scanned with an ABS capable scanner for ABS/Chassis codes. See below.

Quote:
The EBCM performs 1 initialization test each ignition cycle. The initialization of the EBCM occurs when 1 set of the following conditions occur:
Both of the following conditions occur:

* The EBCM detects that there is a minimum of 500 RPM from the PCM via a serial data message.
* The stop lamp switch is not applied.

OR
Both of the following conditions occur:

* The vehicle speed is greater than 16 km/h (10 mph).
* The stop lamp switch is applied.

The initialization sequence may also be commanded with a scan tool.

The initialization sequence cycles each solenoid valve and the pump motor, as well as the necessary relays, for approximately 1.5 seconds to check component operation. The EBCM sets a DTC if any error is detected. The initialization sequence may be heard and felt while it is taking place, and is considered part of normal system operation.

The EBCM defines a drive cycle as the completion of the initialization sequence.

Re: Anti lock light anomoly

Before you dump any money in it check the ground wire from the positive battery cable that leads to the fender wall.....I had all kinds of funky problems with my antilock light coming on and once I cleaned the ground wire problem was fixed....a 10 minute job...and easy too....

Reasonable suggestion but are you sure you do not mean check the battery negative cable (-) (black) that leads to the fender well? I seriously doubt the battery positive cable is grounded as mentioned at least not on a '97 and up Regal.

And what GM car - year and model is this?

Here is a pic from a '99 Regal LS which has the cable going to the ground stud at the right fender apron. The positive feed only goes to the PCM module, starter and engine compartment fuse box. My finger is pointing to the cable that terminates at the ground stud on the fender. As you can see it is connected to the negative side. The main part of the ground terminates at the engine/transaxle grounding stud.
