stupid question probably...

would turning your overdrive on or off have any effect on a car's acceleration??? obviously i'm not sure what the overdrive does so an explanation would help. i noticed when i turn it off while driving my rpm's go up about 500....

Turning it off won't help or hurt acceleration but it will keep you from "lugging" the engine while driving around town. Overdrive is just 4th or 5th gear in the auto transmission.

Over drive on helps save gas on the highway.
Over drive off when you need more power. example pulling a trailer or when on hills. Or around town when you need more power gives more responce to the engine because the rpms are up.

Re: stupid question probably...

to add on, in mine, if im running a short course with another guy i just put mine in 2, it will rev your rpms like a bastard and give you shitty economy, but the advantages are when you let off you will not up shift, then down shift again, thowing off the balance of your car in a turn, and when you get back into the gas there will be no delay b/c your already in 2nd. not to mension you will get engine braking, so you wont have to heat and burn your brakes as much.
