How much would it cost to swap an LS1 or LT1 into a 98 base Firebird?
I've decided that when my engine wears out in my Firebird, instead of having it rebuilt, I would rather get a used LS1 or LT1 engine and put it in the bird. What all would I have to have done and about how much would it run me for? I know that I would have to get the engine, a new transmission, and mess around with the ECU. Also please list some sites where I could find the parts needed. It will be a year or two before I get around to this anyway. It would probably be cheaper and less of a headache to just trade for a Formula or Trans Am...but I have a real hard time parting with my car. Thanks.

You're right, it would be cheaper to sell your current vehicle and buy an LS1 or LT1 car. A decent used engine and tranny alone could run you a good $5K, then its would probably be a good idea to upgrade the rear end and suspension too. Save yourself the headache and buy an LT1/LS1 car when that time comes.
