Can't leave well enough alone.

The poor quality of my ancient camera does not do this justice.

I decided to repaint my car yet again - something about driving a black car in the middle of the hot Phoenix summer sun that drove me to select another color.

In homage to my old Grand Am, here I present you the new and improved Old Car -

That last one is just showing off my Cragar 342 NASCAR-style wheels.

Wow... very VERY nice. You should be able to stand out of a crowd absolutely anywhere you go.

Looks great! Is that a Wilson antenna in the trunk?

Yes, a Wilson 5000. It is fed by my Uniden Grant (original) among 'other' things.

I can't tell you that, but I did the paint myself. With a POS compressor and a $16 "HVLP" gun from Harbor Freight. I used paint from Space Age Paint Store here in Mesa.

If you do want to paint it yourself, you need to:

* Have a great NIOSH safety mask. Paint fumes are nasty and create all sorts of physical havoc.
* Latex gloves, like what doctors use, to keep the paint off your hand while you mix it. Believe me, it will wind up on your hand.
* Have an enclosed area (for dust reasons) that is well-ventilated, or use tarps but make sure it's ventilated.
* Dampen the floor with plain water before you start painting. This will minimize dust being kicked up into the air (and onto your new paint).
* Be prepared with your paint. Reducer, paint and catalyst (hardener) all ready to go, with adequate amounts of pre-measured paint mixing cups (the quart ones are about 2/$1). Plenty of stirring sticks and strainers on hand. Mix only enough paint to fill the reservoir on the gun you're going to use.
* A good gun. This doesn't necessarily include the gun I used. Get a real HVLP gun, the gravity-fed kind. A little more expensive, but trust me - it's worth it.
* A good compressor. Definitely not what I used.
