Timing chain replacement interval

I understand that the DOHC engine in a 1995 SL2 is an interference engine. Is this true? I would like to avoid engine damage caused by a timing chain failure. At what age or mileage should the chain be replaced? I'm pushing 149,000 miles on mine. Am I tempting the devil here?

Re: Timing chain replacement interval

Your engine is a interference engine. With proper maintance is designed to last the life of the car.You replace it when it starts sounding like a diesel engine.

Re: Timing chain replacement interval

To add to richpin's comments, if you keep the maintenance up with regular oil changes and have kept the oil level at the full level throughout, unless hearing what is advised above, just keep driving on. Good Luck !

This richpin is an excellent adviser. If you have further questions and don't get a reply, PM him directly. He will help.
