01 Passport muffler.

I have a sound coming from my muffler and i thought it was a heat shield but it is actually something inside the muffler. I have to replace it so is there any advantage to getting an oem one versus a muffler shop one??? Are there any sensors at the muffler that may give me problems???

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

i just read that it has 2 converters, would there be any good reasons to have "duals" put on it???? any gain in gas mileage by chance??

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

stay away from OEM mufflers. They cost close to 500 bucks.

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

The only advantage to OEM mufflers is that they are quiet (if you like it that way). If you want a little sound and some performance gain (not a lot but some) you can get a flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler. I have one on mine and its not loud at all but has some sound too it. I had them do 2.25" pipe from the y-pipe back (some guys do 2.5"). There really isnt a way to do a real dual exhaust on these because the gas tank takes up all the room on the left side.

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

i talked to a guy at my local muffler shop and he said he could replace it with a universal muffler and weld it all in for $80 plus tax. I also have a leak towards the front of the vehicle in the exhaust that he said he would also fix for that price so i didnt think that was too bad. I may look into the flowmaster, thats what i have on my truck..

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

Sounds like a great deal. Just make sure you have him put in a flowmaster and not some cheap 10 buck muffler.

Re: 01 Passport muffler.

Wow good price! I got screwed by meineke, they charged me over $400 to install my flowmaster which included new pipe to the y-pipe and bending the new tail pipe. At least they used stainless and its all mandrel bent.
