1996 Chevy K3500, 5.7, Auto, 106,000 Miles Service Light ON Pulled code - P1345 Crank and Cam shaft position sensor corralation Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone else have to deal with this code? We just replaced the intake gasket and put everything back and checked the timing and it runs great. Any idea how to get rid of this service light??? Thanks.

Check the post called timing a 1998 chevy 5.7l k1500. It's just a few posts down from yours. I just did my intake also. Truck runs fine to me but it sounds like its off to my buddy who works at a GM dealer as a mechanic since I don't have a Gm Tech 2 scanner. Those guys in my post gave some great advice, but it's beyond me now.

The dist position needs adjusted.
The timing is not adjustable.
Turning the dist does not change or set the timing.
Base Timing is set by the crankshaft sensor.
It requires a engine capable scanner to check and set the dist camshaft retard on it.
Cam shaft retard setting is turning the dist/centering the rotor to fire dead on with the plug wire terminals.
It is set in degrees - or + and as close to 0 degrees as can get it.

Hey A mechanic from WI here and I definately have input for you. I had a blazer in my shop with the same code and I chased everything around- timing plugs sensors etc... Well what it turned out to be was a crappy distributor and rotor design. First get it to top dead center on the right cyl. Pull your cap and try to turn the rotor around by hand and I bet it turns and there is your problem. GM stopped using rotors with keys or bolts to hold it on instead they press them to save $$ and once again the consumer has to foot the bill. Let me know if this helps
