03 Sport Trac Shifting problems

First time poster here....

I have an 03 Sport Trac Manual with 61K miles. (75K warranty) I have been experiencing random shifting problems.....1st/2nd gear lockout.....hard resistance to get into gear from a stop after the vehicle has been running for some time. This does not happen all the time though. I brought this into the dealer and of course it could not be replicated. Was told to double clutch (take foot off brake) and that Sport Trac were notorious for trouble getting into 1st/2nd. Other option would be to have them open it up...but I would be on the hook if nothing was found. Thoughts or suggestions on this and what it could be?

I thought I had to it duplicated when on a decline I experienced the same issues...more frequently but not all the time....truied to bring it in and test on their hill but no luck. This is very frustrating....appreciate any help.

Re: 03 Sport Trac Shifting problems

Does the owner's manual mention anything about having to double clutch? If not, and driving it like the owner's manual says to still exhibits a problem, it seems like the dealer should be responsible for fixing it under warranty. Ie: if they feel the problem is in the transmission, they should open it up and inspect it, and if nothing is found, they should still not charge you for it.

I agree with Rod. At least you'll have documentation that the problem started before warranty was up. Sometimes you can get lucky and they'll cover it if the problem was obvious before warranty ends.

As for your problem, it kinda sounds like a syncronizer issue.
