In need of assistance...

My gf has a 2003 Camry which she recently had some bodywork done on due to a car accident we were in. Thankfully, the accident was minor and not my fault (we were struck from behind) but the car did sustain around 2k dollars worth of damage. We picked up the car last friday night and it looks great however, the cd player is no longer working. We think there may be a CD in it but it wont eject or play or accept another CD. The stereo and speakers all work fine. Is there possibly a code that needs to be reset in order to work the CD player.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Scott

Re: In need of assistance...

Assuming the CD Player and Radio is one unit (usual), a security code should lock both from working. There is a chance the unit experienced a good amount of force from the accident, and it could have jammed the CD.

If it is a separate unit a plug may have come out of the back of it, depriving it of power.

I doubt a blown fuse would prevent just the cd player from working, especially if it is the same unit as the radio. But it's worth a check.

You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnecting it to see if a power cycle of the memory wire may help. Doubtful, but it may give it a needed kick.

If you determine the unit to be fried and beyond repair. You may as well replace it and disassemble the old one to retrieve your CD. If the CD is just jammed, you may be able to disassemble the unit, retrieve the CD, and reassemble it like nothing ever happend. Just make sure everything is aligned as it were. But be prepared to buy a new one in case something goes wrong.

Note: It is also possible that the CD shattered in the drive from the crash depending on the impact force. CDs shatter into many little pieces and can get in the teeth of gears and such. If this is the case, you will have to disassemble the unit and clean out (probably canned air will work best) all the little pieces, if you want to salvage the unit. If not just replace it.

Thank you Ice, I'll give your suggestions a shot.

Re: In need of assistance...

I would read the owner's manual under cd player/ radio (or audio system) and see if a security code is required to reset the system. The body shop may have disconnected the battery before working on the car and that may require an imput of the security code when the battery was reconnected. If you can't find anything about this in the manual I would try calling Toyota corporate customer service and ask them about it. Their number is 1-800-331-4331. Have the radio model from the radio's faceplate handy and also your VIN number.

Re: In need of assistance...

This is an addendum to my earlier question regarding my gf's Camry.
Does anyone know or have a link to remove the cd player/head unit (if needed)? I was able to take a look at it myself last night and I think I can see a cd in it so it's going to need to be disassembled. The slot where the cd enters is narrow and it has some kind of rubber covering it but when I slide a butter knife in and press down, I think I can see a cd. There is also a piece of metal in the very center of the slot which I also can press down on with a knife, does anyone know what that is? My guess is that if that metal is sticking up, there is a cd in the player but I'm not certain on this.

Thanks again in advance for your help,
Scott

Thanks Mke,

I passed that number on to her and she said she would give them a call just to see if they know what the problem might be.

Re: In need of assistance...

If you do attempt to disassemble the unit to retrieve the CD, just be careful and note how everything is disassembled, and keep screws organized so you know where to put them back.

Check your PM.
