Question A/C blowing cold on drivers side but hot on passenger side

I have a 98 Grand Prix GT. The A/C is working perfectly on the driver side and blowing very cold but not on the passenger side, it is blowing VERY hot air. It does have the dual climate control and temp is turned all the way down on passenger side (60) as well as on drivers side. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Thanks!

Since the driver's side is cool I would check the temperature actuator is see if it is working as you adjust the passenger side temperature at the head unit. The driver and passenger side have independent temperature actuators. Passenger side actuator is located to the right of center of dash in the lower part of HVAC heater core/evaporator core assembly. You may have to remove the glove box to see or access it.

Re: A/C blowing cold on drivers side but hot on passenger side

Mine does the opposite. I am blowing warm air on the passenger side....and cold on the drivers (in the winter when I want heat) Since it has warmed up....no problem since the drivers side is stuck cold. Anyone know where the driver actuator is located?

Whats up Ernie?

The driver temperature actutator is located to the left of the center of the dash in the HVAC evaporator/heater core assembly. Harder to access than the passenger side if you have a dual climate control system. Sometimes when you manually adjust temperature you can hear the actuator motor.

What climate control system do you have? The manual, manual dual climate or automatic dual climate control (ACC)?

Re: A/C blowing cold on drivers side but hot on passenger side

Hi Ernie. Good to see you back on the forum.

No guarantee this will work but on the CJ2 ACC system there is a quasi reset procedure that may bring the actuators back into in proper alignment. Also, there is a diagnostics procedure on Grand Prix CJ2 systems where you can pull DTC codes if stored. I'd have to look for it.

In the meantime the reset procedure is turn car on/start engine and make sure ACC is on and in auto. Then turn ACC manually to off. Then shut down engine. Next step is to disconnect the battery negative cable for several hours preferably overnight. The procedure may have to be repeated a few times. Doesn't cost anything and you have nothing to lose. If this doesn't work then you probably have a bad driver's side temperature actuator/valve or ACC head unit.
