I'm sure you guys are familiar with High Performance Imports magazine but if not, in issue No.19 they have an article where they go through all this paper work about importing their own skyline.

To me it all seems like such a hassle and in the end you really don't know what you're getting till you pick it up and even then any damage that has occurred in transport isn't their fault and you have to fix it.

This sounds like such bullshit that you have to pay for their mistakes and i think i'd die before going through such a hassle to get a car here. But in the end I guess if I really want my own Skyline R34 then I have to suck it up and bend over first.

Why do the Americans always get screwed when we want high performance foreign cars?

Also, if anyone knows a cheaper way to get an R34 for me in the states please let me know.

The best way to import a GT-R is just buy one from J's Garage http://www.j-garage.com/index.html

Then, contract through Motorex to import the car into the US.

Make sure that J's Garage ships the car in a container so the chances of theft/vandilism/damage is greatly reduced.

I have a GT-R in the US and I imported it from Japan through MotoRex. There are many modifiations required to bring these cars into conformance. I don't know exactly what they do internally, I let Motorex deal with that.

I went to that import site you sent me but when i went to see what it had on importing cars it all seemed really confusing. I may just be an idiot but could you tell me how to see what I have to do to get an R34 over here from that site. You can leave out the part of going through motorex, i was just confused by all the info that site had.

Just as a side note. Did anyone notice that Leon didn't race "Big Bird" in the fast and furious? Yea because it would have waxed every car in that movie.

When you get to the homepage of J's garage, go to form. There, you have to fill out your information as well as what kind of JDM car you are looking to get. Yoshi at J's garage sources many of his cars through Gulliver Japan: http://www2.221616.com/app/hanbai/za...=S01&no=102037 (this link is to the skylines they currently have for sale).

Gulliver is a well known used car dealer in Japan and it happens to be the same company I bought my GT-R from. All of the GT-R's they sell are in top condition. They currently have a couple r32 v-spec II's for sale, take a look at the link.

If you find a gtr you like on the gulliver website, just send yoshi at J's garage the link to the car in the comments section of the form. He will then be able to get that gtr for you.

The gulliver site is unfortunatly in all japanese, but here are some tips on how to read the info...

-Japanese years- H6=1994, H7=1995, H8=1998 and so on...
-If it shows 26 km on the advertisement, it means 26,000 km
-If the price shows 383.6 it means 3,836,000 yen or $32,508.00 dollars (divide the yen cost by 119).

Any other questions, let me know.

So what would be the overall cost of lets say the GTR thats roughly $57k to bring into the states? would you add $25k from J Garage and thats it? or is there extra costs from Motorex to import still?

If you want an R34, then yes, it would be 25k + the price from J's Garage. Also, you will need to pay the customs tarriff which is 2.5% the cost you paid for the gtr in japan. Either you need to show customs your bill of sale from J's garage or type up a letter stating the vehicles worth and sign it. Just say it's worth 6,000 dollars and you'll only have to pay like 250.00 for the customs tariff.

There is also a bonding fee, unlading fee, and a customs brokerage fee that adds up to around $1,200.00.

All in all, you will add around 26,500.00 to the J's Gargage price for an R34.

Remember, I didn't add in shipping cost from japan to US. Not sure if J's garage includes shipping in their price of the car, probably not.

Hope this helps.

i think the price is included with shipping, cause it's stated FOB, meaning FRESH OFF the BOAT. if not, it's like 700-1000 for a container to hold the gtr

FOB does NOT mean fresh of the boat. it means free-on-board, which means that once the car leaves the port in Japan, they are "FEEE" of responsibility. Basically, if the car gets damaged on the ship 1 mile away from the port on its way to the US, they re not responsible.

I'm pretty sure FOB means "Freight On Board".

Depends on the car you find. For R34, add ~$30k to the price. For R32, add ~$20k. I would quess for R33, $25k. The only way to find out for sure is to call Motorex and ask them. Or buy from Motorex inventory.
