New U.S. Friendly French President?

Does this mean it is safe to call them french fries again.

CINCINNATI (Reuters) - Many Americans cheered the victory of Nicolas Sarkozy in France's presidential election, saying they welcomed the conservative's friendlier stance towards the United States after years of strained relations.

Not France's fault that yanks couldn't handle the fact that people disagree with them.

Re: New U.S. Friendly French President?

I had no problems with my French wife. We got along fine for 7 years until she thought I was cheating on her with another French woman.

They have enough of their own problems and can't even agree with each other.

Re: New U.S. Friendly French President?

The Frenchs didn't agree with the Bush's administration for the war in Iraq. And today, we know that we were right not to agree. That doesn't mean that Frenchs don't like Americans or whatever. That only means that we have a little power as on of the five nations on the UNO consil, and if we think that a country (or the dirigeants of this countries) overpass their rights, we have to say it. As German or Russians (ok, not the best example of Democracy for Russia ! ) did by the way.

For the elections, Sarkozy is quite liberal in his politic vision, I think (personnaly) that he's right and there are many problems to solve in France with our system of protection for people. A good system but which needs many reforms to survive. That is on of the problems, there is also a labor market a little bit too rigid, protecting too much some people (in the administrations and some public companies : train, post, etc.).
Sarkozy is the first (for 20 years) to say that there is a problem and that we have to change radically some things even if the syndicates (mainly from the extreme left and not representative at all : less than 8% of the working population) won't be happy to lose some of their advantages. But when the State cannot any more finance some things, there are choices to make.

I'll stop there because it's not really a response to the question you've made, and because my English is not excellent.... !

But for the relationship between France ant the USA, I think that they will be a little bit better, even if sometimes, the Americans could consider a little bit more the world which is arround them

Amicalement ! Faisons l'Amour, pas la Guerre !

So the French have moved a little towards the centre right. It's not a bad place to be. Now perhaps if we can just get the US and Israel to move towards the same goal, the world might be a bit better......
