Carbon fiber hoods...

Are there any grand am carbon fiber hoods with the hood scoops out there? I'd of course paint it the same color as my car because I don't like checkers all over teh place . Any ideas if these exist?

Just under $300 painted to match your car.

Re: Carbon fiber hoods...

Hey Vipey, Look at the Performance and Parts thread at the beginning of the main G/a Page( just below the off topic thread). I know there are a few sites lists there with the carbon fiber hoods.

Re: Carbon fiber hoods...

carbon fiber grand am sc/t ram air hood for the win.... +1 !

completely custom job tho, and you'd have to get someone GOOOD that can work the CF to identical

if you just want a general carbon fiber hood, no scoops or w/e the performance parts thread has a link somewhere in there for that

Re: Carbon fiber hoods...

that one at custom auto trim is pathetic!
Its just a scoop that cost way too much!!

You can get a T/A ram air scoop like that and it looks BA on a grand am. You still have to afix it to the hood, blend then p/p.

I think Vipey is looking for a CarbonFiber hood.
They are on PFYC about $$ 650 $$.

Wont take much to break,
and you sure as hell dont want anyone sitting on it! I've seen it happen

I'll see if I can find the one that has the TA scoops on it

Talking Re: Carbon fiber hoods...

Hi Xero; how ya' been?
I had a fiberglass hood on my 1974 Firebird Formula 400.(lol.. now I'm showing my age, huh???)
That hood was a authentic Pontiac hood that came on my Formula 400; I think it came on all Formula's back then. Anyways, it did develope a slight curve to it on the driver side. Not very noticeable, but it used to bug the heck out of me because I'm one of those damn perfectionists, lol...

One of my buddies said it might have warpped a bit from a combination of heat from the engine, and the outside temperature being about 105 degrees. Of course, that was fiberglass though.... Anyone ever hear of fiberglass doing that ???

I have no experience with carbon fiber yet... Hey, that's for you younger guys now, lol.... I'm too old !!! (but I luv my GT1...) (and still raise a bit of hell with it too...)

Re: Carbon fiber hoods...

Hey Tommy,
those older TA/Firebird's did that for some reason.
I know I used to have a 76' w/409 (what a dog that was)

The hood was in great shape. My friend had one and it sunk in bad. I figured it was a quality control issue , probly didnt mix the resin good when they fabed them

These aftermarket one's are pretty good from what I've heard. These days they bake the hoods inside the molds usually, thus preventing warpage.
Sure are pricey though
