Crankshaft Position Sensor
This for a 98 transport The check engine has two codes PO336 which is crankshaft position sensor A Circuit Range/performance. The same code comes out twice. I change the CPS that goes on the block thinking this might be the cause. The rpm goes on and off sometimes and also the check engine light. I also had to replace the camshaft sensor because it showed on the code reader and after I replaced it was earased so thats good now I just need to finish this one. What does CIRCIT RANGE/PERFORMACE mean? Some thing worng with the wiring? Should I replace the sensor that goes in harmonic balancer pully?
FREEZE FRAME DATA PO336 fuel system1 closed loop calculated load 3.9% temp 197 stft bank 1 -3.9% lift bank 1 -3.9% intake manifold press 15.9 in.hg rpm749 speed 0 mas air flow senor 000.82 lb/min throttle position 0.0% Thanks, Where can I read more about understanding FREEZE FRAME DATA? |

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
It could be the wiring, it could be the sensor. This error code sets when the PCM (computer) does not see the right number of pulses from that sensor (the one by the harmonic balancer) for at least 30 seconds when RPM is below 1600.
I would check the wiring first (cheap) and test the sensor (look for pulsing). My experience with these types of sensors (hall effect) is that they can wear out over time, especially being mounted on or in the motor where they get hot & cool down for years. If its not too expensive or hard to get to, I would replace it (after testing the wiring). Let us know what happens. Take Care,

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Yesterday, replaced the crankshaft sensor one the hormonic balancer and looks like that did the trick. The check engine light is off. For how long don't know. Thanks for the help Greg A.
