HowTo: Fix your Service 4WD Light

I have a 2000 Yukon SLT and was getting a "Service 4WD" error on the message center almost daily. I had it looked at and was told the 4WD was working fine. I found on the net that it could be broken solder joints in the switch and sure enough, resoldering them fixed it. I thought I would link some pictures which make the process self explanatory. It's VERY easy to do and will save you ~$50 on a new switch.

1. Take switch out of dash. (Sorry no pics, but you should only need a standard screwdriver to lift on the tabs after the dash cover is off).

2. Take the cover off the switch

3. Desolder the connections. Pins A-H top left.

4. Resolder the connections. I don't think I could make a career in soldering.

I also wanted to note that the indicator lights on the switch were pretty erradic/dim before the resoldering. Not anymore!!
