bug deflector induced vibration

with a dealer installed bug deflector (not gm equip) installed, the plastic at the base of the windshield of my 2002 silverado 1500hd annoyingly vibrates at highway speeds.

when i remove the deflector, the vibration stops. i am told that the gm bug deflector does not create this wind vibration. does anyone know anything about this? tmarshall [email protected]

I had a similar problem with a ’95 S10 Blazer (w/ 350 engine). It would almost suck the wiper blades off the windshield, making them “vibrate”. I couldn’t stand it, so I took the bug shield off.

I've seen a bunch of them do that. If you are talking about the cowl area, it is disturbed by the airflow,GM's are designed not to but I cant guarantee it won't. If you are talking about the windshield reveal or garnigh molding I believe those have been redesigned to prevent noises both with shield and without.

I now have a shield on a '95 Jimmy with no problems at all, and I don't have as many stones chipping the paint on the nose.

I installed a Bugflector II on my 2003 and immediately began experiancing what sounded like static on the radio. It got worse as the speed increased and was affected by cross winds and passing vehicles.

Taking the deflector off eliminated the "static"

My GM dealership could offer no suggestions, so I tracked down the number for Bugflector's customer service and explained the symptoms to them. The rep I spoke to did not know an answer nor had he heard of the problem.

He did refer me to one of their engineers and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He says that GM had come out with an elaborate fix (this was late 2002) but recommended that I fix it myself.

The turbulence created by the deflector was getting under the rubber trim between the glass and the frame on the verticle window posts and the rubber was snapping up and down on the glass. He said to glue the rubber down, suggesting RTV sealant.

I masked off the glass and rubber, pulled the flap of rubber back a bit and worked RTV sealant back under the rubber. Cleaned up my mess, removed the masking tape and as a precaution, taped down the rubber overnight.

This was over a year ago and I have not had the problem to return

Now, if I can just stop the mirrors from wiggling

Re: bug deflector induced vibration

I had the same problem with my 02..Just like myoungcc said it's the the trim around the window. I used 3M double faced tape. I slid it under the trim them pulled off the paper and pressed it in place.. stopped the noise..
