60/45

I'm from Virginia and was going toward Charlotseville or something to visit a freind. I was given a ticket for 60/45. I am going over this hill, passing the peak and stop at a stop light not too far ahead. I notice an officer behind me as I'm stopping. I continue after the light turns green and notice the officer starts flashing his lights, so I pull over. I gave a little defense that the road was 60 and I have never driven in this area before(and i hadn't). He said there was a sign and he clocked me at 60 going up the hill and gave me a ticket(he was very nice about it).

So going back home I see the same spot the same hill. So I see the 45 sign 15 feet from the peak of the hill.
So gathering that he said he clocked me coming over the hill and only 15 feet from the peak and I was certainly braking or else I would'nt have been able to stop at the light(that's how close it was). Is there a certain space allowed for me to slow down? Like 100 feet after the sign or something? Just a question to know whether to fight it or not.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much

Virginia Speeding Ticket

This is a four point Virginia speeding ticket and will increase your auto insurance, especially since you are still considered a "teenager" by the insurance companies. Was there a reduced speed ahead sign? If not you could argue that you were in the process of slowing down and the judge might dismiss with court costs or at least reduce it to an under 10 violation. You will need to take pictures.

Most insurance companies give you a pass if you only have one under 10 violation. Take a certified copy of your driving record to court with you. In general, it always pays to contest a speeding ticket. While this one may not make a difference, the next one will and I think Virgina keeps records for five years. I assume you know that 20+ or over 80 is reckless driving in Virginia.

Re: 60/45

VA law says that you should be AT the posted speed limit when you get to the sign. There's no slow down allowance.

Sounds like there is heavy enforcement there, they probably had a lot of accidents there.
