Engine dead @ 100K
I have a 98 civic ex, D16Y8 SOHC vtec engine. About two weeks ago it started making a clicking sound during mid-range rpms and then a couple days later it came to a hault. My mechanic told me the bearing in the connecting rod needed to be replaced, and also that only 2 quarts of oil came out of the engine. Oddly enough I just changed the oil 2 weeks ago and I normally do on a timely schedule since I got the car at 35K. The repair failed and now I need a new engine apparently. I'll be able to get a low milage engine installed for 1600 but everyone tells me I should get second opinions and stuff. What do you guys think?

Re: Engine dead @ 100K
ya, the repair for that will be as much as a new motor... now would be a good time to think of upgrading.. i would get quotes from other shops too.. or save some money and do it yourself. its not hard

Re: Engine dead @ 100K
i second the diy..if you want to stay sohc. you could do dohc too but the sohc would be a lot easier..do you have a manual tranny?? if you do just buy another engine w/o the tranny..put yours on it and youre lookin around 600-1000 bucks..or if youre lucky go to a picknpull (junkyard) and you could find one for less than 200.
that is if the mexicans dont come early and snatch it
