2000 Max SE - Rear Brake Caliper stuck
I think the Passenger right rear passenger side brake caliper is sticking. The pads are wearing at 2x the driver side. I've eliminated the parking brake and caliper slides as possible causes. I recently replaced the passenger rear pads and noticed when I went retract the piston, that the piston was extremely difficult to turn. It eventually retracted but with much effort. I'm thining it's sticking causing the wear.
Does anyone know of a maintenance procedure to free up the piston on the rear caliper? I'm trying avoid replacment of the whole rear caliper. I've never removed the rubber boot on the piston but It sounds reasonable the internals could be greased in some way to free it up. |

Re: 2000 Max SE - Rear Brake Caliper stuck
I had this happen to my sonata. The rubber boot got damaged and debris cloged the caliper. I bought remanufactured ones from advance auto parts for really cheap. You could try to take yours apart and clean it out and lube it or buy a rebuild kit but a remanufactured one is worth it.

Re: 2000 Max SE - Rear Brake Caliper stuck
Brake Liquid has to be changed once in 2-3yrs, otherwise accumulated water will rust the whole system inside out.
Piston, also rails, have to be lubed. This is smtg car repair shops 'never' do, they want (?) cows to return for milkin... DANGER: standard vaseline destroys the brake special rubber parts. Use only spacial brake lube. see more at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/18
