Any Toyota Camry specialists out there ?

Hi Everyone,

I just found your website, excellent information !

I am trying to find out how the pro's remove the right hand (passenger side) driveshaft from a Gen 3 Camry. This is the driveshaft with the bearing that passes through the rear engine mount. I find that these bearings are always seized into the engine mount and I need to remove the mount with the driveshaft and press the driveshaft out of the rear engine mount.

After removing the retaining clip and pinch bolt I have tried various penetrating fluids, air impact chisel, drifts etc... and always seem to have to dissassemble the rear engine mount and take it out with the driveshaft.

Does anyone have a good way of removing this driveshaft without touching the engine mount ? I've thought about applying heat to the mount, yes / no ? I always install these using anti-seize as a courtesy for the next person.

Thanks a bunch,

Camry92

I really don't have any experience with removing that bearing, so I can't advise you really on any best known methods. If you are removing it because of a CV joint issue, there is another alternative of buying a half-axle from the inner CV joint outwards rather than removing the intermediate axle and bearing.

Re: Any Toyota Camry specialists out there ?

Hi Dave MC,

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure that the GEN 3 & 4 Camry's with the 5S-FE & A140 Automatic Transmission actually has a half-axle setup. The only way I have seen the RH drive shaft is complete with both CV joints and the bearing already mounted onto the axle.

I see that the same type of axle is used on Toyota Camry's from 1992 thru to at least 2001 so I hope someone has worked out a better way to extract this drive shaft from the rear engine mount. I suspect a combination of localized heating and something like a slide hammer but rather than maybe some has found a better way ?
