97 Max vs 97 Prelude

Hey everyone, I'm a newbie as of 2 min ago. I got a question for the more experienced racers out there (I haven't had a real race yet)...but I was just challenged the other day and am wondering if I should accept or not. I drive a 1997 5-speed Max completely stock, and my friend's brother wants to race me in his 97 prelude (also 5-speed)...his only mod is an intake. I have a feeling it would be a very close race and probably come down to driver skill, but I'm looking for second opinions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

i have a 95 se 5speed with a stillen cat-back exhaust and carbon fiber intake. i shit all over preludes.
when you race him, drop the clutch at like 1800 rpm let the tires chirp and all that, don't let off the gas.

Racing 1997 Max vs. 1997 Prelude

Hey dude,

I have been in your shoes before. I also have a 5 speed 1997 Maxima SE, and I raced my friends 1997 5 speed Prelude and won. I consider myself to be a very good shifter, and I only won by about 1 car length. I ran 15.2 STOCK at 101 mph at the track before any mods were done, just to give you an idea. Your max has 190 HP and his has 200 if has has an H-22A engine. VERY CLOSE. It's really depends on who the better shifter is and who gets the best launch!

100% RIGHT

That's another good point. If you get a good launch, there's no looking back for ya!

Thanks so much everyone! I knew I had more torque too, so as long as I get him off the line and keep pushing I think I got a good shot. I'm just curious if his intake really makes much of a difference or not...I know gains wouldn't be too important, 10 horses or something, but it's still something to consider. Either way, I'm sure it's worth a shot for the fun of it!

Haha thanks. I mean I'm only 17 and only learned to drive a stick about 3 months ago, so I'm not sure exactly how good I am as far as racing goes, but I think I'm decent. I learned on my dad's '72 stingray after all! Either way...the dude keeps talkin trash about my max and is getting his sister and friends to do the same....I think it's about time he gets is head ripped off and his ass burned!
