Transmision slipping ??

Hi to all out there I have a Vento 1997 glx 2.0....they told is the same as model MK III Bora..... saved everything and now this is a lemon...... it happens when i start it slipps from 1 to 2nd gear my rpm goes to 40 and then if i let go of the accelerator it pulls and go .......sometimes it just gets stuck ...they told me complete new transmision but i just bought the car is there anything else that can be done Thanks
