86 Olds Regency

I own a 1986 Olds Regency with the 3.8 V-6. The car was sitting over the winter, about 8 months. Anyway, the engine idles at about 1500-2000 RPM, all the time, hot or cold, don't matter. I unplugged the IAC valve and plugged it back in with no change in idle speed. There is no "check Engine" light on. I don't see any vacuum leaks. Could the IAC valve be bad? Thank you for yuor help.

Welcome to AF. Yes, take it out clean the carbon off, do the same to the throttle body.

Re: 86 Olds Regency

I put a new IAC valve in and cleaned the throttle body, still idles way high. I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake, etc., checked all the vacuum lines, did'nt find anything. I also turned the idle screw out, which still did not help. Anything else that would cause this?

Yes a bad tps sensor, with a scanner you should have about .50 volts at idle, base idle screw back where it belongs.
