i30 1996 - Review

I am thinking of buying i30 1996 model. My friend tells me that Nissan introduced this vehicle in 1996. I was wondering if this is a reliable car... especially since that was their first year of manufacturing the car.

The current owner of the car said that the Check Engine Light on the car came on a few days back. Anyone here know of any known problems with this car?

Any info about this model will be greatly appreciated.

The 1996 I30 is the exact same and the maxima. In fact the when the maxima line moved to a different plant the I30 line started to be made. The only differences is the styling of the car. These really are amazing cars and will last a long time. As for the engine light you should get that coded and figure out what it is before you buy it. If you could give us a little more info about how the car is running and such we minght be able to tell you what it is.

Re: i30 1996 - Review

I own a 96 I30, and personally I wouldn't want another one. When I bought mine 2 years ago, it had 68K miles. I was in love with it. Soon after, the problems started. I can't say if it was poorly taken care of before I got it, or if the age of the car is the reason I am having to replace things. Yes my check engine light has come on a couple of times. Either a knock sensor or oxygen sensor which there are a few of and are expensive. I've had to replace things like starter, alternator, radiator, few hoses, and am now having a problem with pulling that doesn't make sense to me. Hope it has nothing to do with transmission. A lot of parts are costly (at least to me), just like coil packs are almost $90 piece and there are 6. I've had to replace the fuel filter 3 times in 2 years for sluggish performance. From what I've read I could be an isolated case, but it has turned me off toward the car. I keep having to spend my "new car" savings on keeping the one I have running. And other draw back for me, is not being able to fit larger items in it. If you want the car purely for riding then it should be fine. For me as an only car and with three kids, I need more than a reach through to the trunk and for the rear doors to open alittle wider.
