charging system light

After installing a new bat and alt my battery icon keeps flashing and my information center says "battery not charging" Is there any way to reset without going to a dealer. My volt meter is showing 14.5 volts . Almost forgot 2004 2500HD 6.0

Re: charging system light

Check the connection at the alt real good, try to wiggle it while your apprentice looks at the dash. Just because you put in a new alt does not mean that it is good. I see it everyday, new parts out of the box that are bad.

Thank You for your reply
After installing the new alt and bat the volt gauge is reading 12v ignition on engine not running and when you start the engine it goes to 14v. Also used a volt meter at the battery with same results. Have drove the truck 500+ miles with "battery not charging" and the battery icon flashing.
