'96 Ranger Question

Hello,

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger (automatic/2wd) and she drives and runs great but just doesn't have the power I think she should have. It's a V6, 3.0L but it just seems weak to me. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could do to get some more power in her? I've thought about replacing the air filter and the spark plugs but don't think that would do much. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot guys.

Re: '96 Ranger Question

my truck has no ac so it feels fine to me but there are bolt ons that may help in the power department

you can start with a cold air intake and improved exhaust. more open headers
then progress to a bigger throttlebody and maf.
then you can install a underpullyset and a efan and a set of roller rockers and top off the bolt ons with a good computer tune for them below is info on must of those http://rogueperformance.com/WelcometoFredland.html

and http://stuffforyourranger.com/store/ but also your best bet maybe to sell your ranger and get the 4.0 version

Re: '96 Ranger Question

I had a '94 standard cab with 3.0L. I brought it brand new with no A/C. I thought that it drove sluggish at best especially when going up hill. I got rid of it and bought me a '99 Xtracab with 4.0L. Power is adequate for my purpose and I'm getting 18-19 MPG around town.

I suggest you get a 4.0L model. However, before you try "souping" it up for more power, make sure that everything and whatever you got now are all working as they should.

Re: '96 Ranger Question

There is nothing you can do. That 3 L just isnt much engine. Ive got a 3 L in my 95 ranger and its weak but at least its manual tranny so that helps some and the gas milage I get is not as good as Ive gotten with the 4 L in the aerostar I have.
