code scanner

I have a 1992 gmc pickup,I would like to buy a scanner for trouble / engine codes. any info or suggestions on models to buy.Thanks for any help

If the codes are all you want to access, jump terminals a and b, count the flashes, go to troublecodes.net for the info.

what else could I access with a reader,that different than just counting the flashes.Thanks

A " real scanner" will show the sensor inputs for proper diagnostics.
