2002 misfire

My sister has a 2002 neon with 29000 miles. Car was missing bad on acceleration. Changed the plugs. Car ran fine for a few days now its acting the same way it did before the new plugs. Checked the the wires and coil pack for visual signs of defects and none were evident. Any suggestions?

Im not sure what the CEL is. But if you are referring to service engine lights none are on.

Re: 2002 misfire

Check Engine Light.

What plugs did you put in there? Misfires could be alot of things; plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel injectors, fuel rail clogged and so on. How many miles on the spark plug wires?

Re: 2002 misfire

Replaced with champions plugs gapped at .35. I took Bosch Platnum out that were about 6 months old. The wires are original the car has 29000 miles on it. They are pretty heavy wires. Always used same BP gas with the occasional bottle of fuel injection cleaner. I guess we could try replacing the wires. Should I also replace the plugs again?

Pull the plugs and take a look at them.

Re: 2002 misfire

Replaced wires today. Car is running much better. Thank you. I just thought that those stock wires lasted longer than 30,000. Plugs looked ok, what is a good plug to run in this vehicle.

Re: 2002 misfire

30,000 miles sounds about right to me. Run the stock plugs in the neon. Stay away from platinum and split-fire plugs. No benefit over stock on the neon.
