I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee with the Infinity Gold sound system. I recently purchased a Sony receiver and installed it but there is a yellow and black wire that looked like was grounded to the stock radio that I don't know what to do with (It had a white connector on the end but looked like a 2 pin connector for 1 wire). The installation instructions for the new receiver stated there may be an infinity speaker ground wire attached to the radio and that it needs to be attached to the ground wire coming from the receiver, however when I connect that wire to the ground for the receiver my gages don't work and my Jeep will start then turn off after a few seconds. If I leave the wire alone and just ground the receiver normally everything appears to be fine although I question as to whether or not my amp is actually working. I think I got more bass from my stock radio with the amp. I find it hard to believe that the sony won't work as well.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Cluny |

Re: Extra wire after installing new stereo?!?
Not sure if this is the same. When I swapped the Inifinity CD/Cassette player in place of the Cassette Player I had that ground wire clipped to the existing Cassette player. The connection to the CD player was not as obvious (since I didn't know how it looked originally). I just took the grounding wire and connected it as taught as I could to one of the tabs on the Infinity CD/Cassette player and it works fine. Perhaps instead of connecting that ground wire to the sony ground wires connect it to the head unit itself. Better get a second opinion first though.

Re: Extra wire after installing new stereo?!?
That wire is a pci bus wire, basically its for communication between modules. It should not be grounded because that takes the whole bus out.Thats why the jeep wont run,you are taking out the communication between the skim module and engine controller. Also the dash is on the bus so it doesn't work.Bottom line, leave it unplugged.
