need some help with my bagged 99 s10

I got a 99 s10 2.2 auto.... i have heard they are notorious for the ground for the fuel pump and my fuel pump was (occasionally) working so i pulled the bed and changed the fuel pump.... now I got fuel and spark but i cant get it to start...if i spray some starting fluid in the intake it will want to fire and occasionally without.... anyone tell me their ideas on it? I am thinking the fuel pump i put in isnt giving enough pressure maybe?

Welcome to AF.
Go easy on the starting fluid. Carb cleaner is a lot safer.
Dis you check and or clean the ground wire for fuel pump?
You might check all fuses.
Put some extra gas in the tank. May be to low to pick up fuel?
Can you hear the fuel pump prime up on key on?
But you need to get a fuel pressure gauge on it to make sure you have the proper fuel pressure.
Post back pressure readings.

Re: need some help with my bagged 99 s10

thanks for the welcome.... I am 99.9% sure that the fuel pump isnt pushing the right pressure i went back out and hit the pressure valve on the fuel line atop my motor and it had a small squirt(not even usualy spray) and then stopped so im going to just take the fuel pump back and exchange it.... My bed is still off anyhow so its not bad to do :P

A large or small squirt does not tell much about fuel pressure.
Does the fuel pump prime up key on?
Or can you hear it run on engine crank?
Has it got power on prime up and ground to fuel pump?

Put 5 gallon of gas in tank and try it.
Also check fuel filter.
