Need help repairing

I had an accident and took it to the shop and they gave me a 1600 dollar price to fix . I can't afford that so I plan on trying to do the best I can with what I have. this is what it looks like.



Fender flares would have completely covered the mistake but they don't provide them for 06' chevy duallys so I had to settle for fender trim. So know the mistake has been reduced to this.



The bottom circle is where the fiberglass (it is made out of fiberglass) has cracked all the way through. I don't know how I can fix that. Maybe if I perhaps get epoxy in the crack to glue it back and then use white paint then clear paint over it etc.

The large circle is off scratches some deep enough where you can see the fiberglass underneath others where just the clear top coat has been scuffed up and others where the scatch is deep enough go through the clear coat and the just scuff up the white paint coat.


I am not to sure how to fix this. Will probably need primer matching white oem paint and clear top coat to fix and maybe perhaps some polishing to remove scuff marks from the coat and/or to blend in areas. maybe they have a kit or something else someplace for this etc.

You can get fiberglass repair kits. I think most marine stores sell them. I believe Gel Kote is what you need. Then you should be able to sand it, paint it and clearcoat it with a paint touchup kit.

Also if $1600 was dealer price, you might be able to take it to a local body shop that may be able to do it much cheaper.

Fiberglass repair kits are available at most autoparts stores as well as marine stores. Once the fiberglass is structurally repaired, you should be able to sand, prime and paint as normal. Gel coat is usually only used on boat finishes. A couple of other estimates is not a bad idea either.

Really. He said that there would be problems with adhereing to the fiberglass and repairing so that is why he had to replace the WHOLE side part. that is why it costs so much. This wasn't the dealers price. Somebody referred me to him telling me he was the cheapest in town. Perhaps not. Anything else to add. there isn't any really reason for me to repair the whole thing considering most of it will be concealed. Only the parts that show need to be repaired. Thanks

buy some poly resin,,go to autobody or boat store and they have a "floury, snowflakey" stuff they call fiber-fill,,mix it with your resin till it makes a bondo-type paste,,spread with a spreader,,sand prime then paint,, gel-coat is a marine paint that hardens with mekp

P.S. sand with 36 grit before repairing
