spark plugs on v6
Do you have to removed the intake manifold to change the spark plugs on the v6? Im almost positive you do but is there anything i need to be aware of when taking of the manifold and will i need a new gasket?

Re: spark plugs on v6
you do.
the gaskets reusable o-rings. nothing special - you have to drain the coolant since the coolant runs through the throttle body.

Re: spark plugs on v6
I used a pair of hose clamp off pliers to clamp off the cooling hoses to the throttle body and didn't need to drain the coolant that way.
Unplugging the EVR on the back of the upper intake was not much fun. I found that quite a bit easier to get to after loosening the upper intake, lifting it up just enough to angle the intake forward a bit, then I was able to get a few fingers back there to unplug it. While you have the upper intake manifold off, use a bright light to check the PCV elbow for obvious cracks, or spend the $25 at the dealer plus an extra half an hour to replace it (you can read about problems the elbow may cause when cracked by searching this forum). You will need to remove the fuel rail to replace the elbow. Getting the fuel rail disconnected requires the snap lock connector tool. Oh, if there is any sign of oil on the coils or in the plug wells, you may as well replace the valve cover gaskets while you're this far into the job. -Rod |
