Brake Problem. Anyone heard of this

wife has a 05 elantra. recently brakes started screeching. so obviosly she takes the car into just brakes. suppose to cost $99 ect. they told her would cost $650 to fix brakes. the reason they gave is they said on new cars like the elantra if the parking brake is not engaged when ever the car is in park a pin in the brake system is forced to engage causing to to break down and lock into place after a while. they said since this was locked into place it now basically destroyed the entire rear brake system. she has not had anything done yet. was curious if anyone has heard of this. ??? any info is helpful.

They are full of it. Take it elsewhere. I'm not saying that everything with the rear brakes is shot, it's just there reasoning doesn't make a bit of sense. Our service manager here used to work for Firestone. He said that Firestone trained them pretty much to rip people off, and that every car that needs brakes, also needs calipers, whether it really needed them or not.
