Changing Names

K lets say you get your name changed legally. Like you do the whole court order and everything. And then you get the letter that says your name has officially been changed. Do you absolutley have to announce publically that your name has changed like through a newspaper?

Re: Changing Names

Doubt it, I imagine part of the reason a lot of people change their names is for privacy's sake. They'd tell you if you needed to do that.

Re: Changing Names

I changed my last name 8 months ago, starts with a D now. I didn't have to announce it but I did however have to go through the whole SS process and legal swearing in front of a judge with the whole birth certificate and all. Not to mention changing the school loans, credit cards, emails and banking info, and possibly my AF name...oneday . Took a few months to do everything but women do it all the time when they get married so I sucked it up. Oh this was all due to me taking my stepfather of 25 years last name out of respect.

Re: Changing Names

i'm going to change my first name (from full to short) when i have the money (about $600 i think) so i'll need a new passport/driver's licence/etc and that can be pricey.

it's a lot of paperwork, but it's really not that bad. my friend did all the paperwork to change his name, then found out that he did actually like the name Dakota.

In my state you have to publish a legal announcment of your request for change in name and the reason you are giving the court for changing it in the newspaper at least 90 days before your court hearing date. If you are changing your name for fradulant purposes such as avoiding a debt or criminal record there are penalties under the law. Also be aware that you are a number, not a name. After the name change you have to notify everybody and every business that has an interest. Your Social Security number will always be the same with an annotation of AKA (also known as) that will forever be part of your life in the federal database, all the credit agencies and all the other databases you don't even know about and many credit applications and job apps require you to list all AKA's.

Sounds like you're better off calling him "Sir".

All the protein shakes in the world can't change the fact that the only Dakotas I ever knew were into cock.

Fanning, the only Dakota I know of

My roommate had to change his last name from Gamble-Patterson to just Patterson. When he got the new birth certificate, he came home only for me to point out that they had spelled it Pattesron and he had to do it again

That sucks. But that wasn't his fault was it?

Re: Changing Names

Wasn't his fault other than the fact that he looked at his own name misspelled on his birth certificate and saw nothing wrong
