New power ratio!

Hey guys Polygon and I are working on a new ratio equation for power that takes HP, Torque, and weight into consideration. We are getting some interesting numbers that can help you figure out what kinds of cars you can beat baised on those numbers. It's really cool stuff and we hope that it will work.

WE NEED MORE DATA! I am looking for information. I need your cars acutal weight (i just took mine to a local scale), HP, torque, and a 1/4 mile if you have one. Please dont estimate your hp and torque from mods, I need actual numbers for more accurate results and the same goes for the 1/4 mile. If you have a track time or a dyno those are the best.

After we get a little more data we will be posting it here on AF for all to play with. It's really neat stuff!

Re: New power ratio!

For my RX-8 since i havent taken it to the track, I'd say go with 14.7 for a 1/4 mile since that is the average between the best and worst times the mags got with it, and its stock so are you going bby Bhp or Whp? Bhp is 232, Whp is 180 (again taken from the average number from dynos) and tq is 140 Btq is 156. I know you said not to speculate, but since mine is completely stock it doesnt really matter since all those have been taken from stock times and records, my car weighs 2950 without driver, with driver it weighs 3065.

Have fun.

man why are you losing almost 100 hp and Lbft through the drivetrain
it would be interesting to see what your car would do with an even 400 at the wheels

It's typical to lose a lot of power in the drive train. That numbers dont surprise me.

Re: New power ratio!

it still seems like a lot though couldn't you by a trans that more efficiently puts the power down?

Re: New power ratio!

In most modern gearboxes and drivetrain, it is common to lose roughly 18% power from the flywheel to the wheels.

you can have bhp at the wheels, or bhp at the fly. bhp stands for brake horse power. the brake being the dyno.

it's somewhat of an american misconception that bhp means power at the fly.

Cause its preaty damn near stock. I only threw a couple of bucks at the engine and re-tuned it.
If I was making 400whp Id be changing out the clutch more often!

Re: New power ratio!

So what's this new power ratio deal anyways?

I've been watching this thread for answer, and I'm not sure what you're getting at yet.

Get-r-done boys!

Re: New power ratio!

Well I'm about ready to post what I've got. I really wated more numbers from your guys so I could give estimated quarter mile ranges. But since I didn't get much I'll post what I got. It dosent work perfictly for every car, most likely because all the information I have is confusing at some point. Just like you guys said there is a difference between WHP and BHP and you never know what number is given when your looking up specs on cars, which is what I've had to resort to.

All this information may not be perfictly accurate but can give you a general idea. It's a pain in the butt to find unmoded 1/4 times and accurate weight. Remember that data means nothing without inturpritation. From what I gather 70-100 rage will give you a 14s car, and 101-120 will give you a 13s car. This is why I wanted more data so I could produce more range information and accurate numbers. Cars that have close numbers would have an interesting race, it would come down to how well the drivers drive, and possibly gear ratio. Most of these cars are street leagal, stock, and have comparable gear ratios and thoes seam to be the ones that work the best. Motified cars that are designed for racing or draging dont work well with it, mostly because of the different gear ratios they have. Heres the equation of you want to play with it or have any comments on it.

(HP + TQ)^2
Weight

Thanks guys I hope you have fun with this and that it actually means something to ya. Also note that the Maxima's data is for my own car.
