learned a math course in 10hrs

so i had to take differential equations and series, a math course that's given to math and science students in second year and engineering students in first year. we had 4 tests, worth 10% each, and one exam. if you did better on your exam than some tests, the prof would take the best combination of exam and tests. since i didn't really write any tests i had a 100% exam.

the thing about this is that i always plan to study a few days before the exam but always end up studying the day before the exam. well in this case i ended up studying, or learning (i stoped going to class about half way through the semester) about 10hrs before the exam. I got a D+ in the course, so i passed, which means i learned a second year math course in under 10hrs. i really really hope school gets harder than this next year because if it doesn't i'll most likely continue to f!ck the dog and get low marks. its kinda funny how my academic success is directly proportional to the difficulty of my education.

p.s. i wasn't posting this to boast, just kinda surprised at it and kind of dissappointed at the same time.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

Do you get to move on with that grade? At my school you have to get a C- or better to move onto the next class...

It's pretty cool that you can pick up on math so quickly...I struggle with it so much.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

yeah, it depends on the course here but i need at least a D- to move on with that course, although my marketing course needed something like a C- to move on to the next one. i also need to keep above a certain average to stay in my program, i need at least a C- to stay in engineering (it goes up after each year). if you get less than C- you go on probation where you have to pass all your courses and get above the required average or they kick you out.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

Why don't you just take more courseload or more difficult classes. Find out who is brutal in the course and then take that proffessor's course. It's more the instructor then it is the book stuff.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

i have to take specific courses to get an acredited degree, i can't take more courses because i would have to apply for an overload (already taking a full course load) and for that you need to have good grades, not to mention i wouldn't be able to fit in an extra course with my increased involvement with the rowing program at my school next year.

also, if i could take extra courses, i most likely wouldn't, i'm incredibly lazy when it comes to school so if i'm not forced to work i don't. i'll most likely do better next year though because i'll be running part of the rowing program (became vice president of the rowing club, i missed the meeting so they dumped the responsibility on me lol) and i do alot better when i'm busy. my best two months of school were the first two because i was rowing and didn't really have time to sit on my ass and waste my day.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

So...I had to teach myself 5 months of math (inlcuding intro to trig, algebra, and pre calc this was 9th grade) cause i was moving early and it was too early just to let me go, so I had to study everything on my own and pass a certain amount of tests and work to finish teh class.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

If I were you I'd get your study habits with the easy work load then to the hard work load anyway.

Re: learned a math course in 10hrs

I wish I could learn math, period. *sigh* I suppose that's why I'm a writer. I may be in contact with you before long for help with the basic level course at my university.

I know what you mean about the difficulty level though. I find that I do better work when it's very intense or demanding. Easy classes never get me anywhere.
