Rear differential CV axle seals leaking
02’ Explorer XLT V6 2wd.
The rear differential CV axle seals are leaking and need to be replaced. Is this a fairly simple repair? I plan on picking up a manual from the library. Thanks, Matt |

Re: Rear differential CV axle seals leaking
Is it the axle seals in the differential that are leaking, or the rubber boots around the CV joints?

Re: Rear differential CV axle seals leaking
Oddly enough, I can find the procedure for changing the rear halfshafts, with special tools called out to avoid damaging the rear axle seals. I find a procedure to replace the pinion seal. But I find nothing in the factory service manual for replacing the axle seals.

I checked out a manual from the library last night. CV axle diff. seals seem straight forward. Replacing the pinion seal is a bit more involved as you need to have proper preload when reinstalling. I have a seal puller that is found in any auto parts store. |
